The best DJI waterproof camera is the Osmo Action 5 Pro ($351). It's waterproof to 20 m (66 ft) with no case and to 60 m (197 ft) in DJI's Waterproof Case, shows your depth on screen, can start recording automatically at 1 m, and uses a color temperature sensor to correct underwater color. That covers snorkeling, surfing, pools and most recreational diving. The Osmo Pocket 3 and DJI's other vlog cameras and mics are not waterproof.

Which DJI cameras are waterproof?
| Product | Waterproof? |
|---|---|
| Osmo Action 5 Pro | Yes: 20 m bare, 60 m with Waterproof Case |
| Osmo Action 4 | Yes: 18 m bare |
| Osmo Pocket 3 | No |
| DJI Mic 2, Mic Mini | No IP rating. See is DJI Mic waterproof |
| DJI drones | No. See Mini 4 Pro waterproof |
Why the Action 5 Pro is the pick
- Depth and dive tools. In the Depth & Altitude settings, the Diving menu can start recording automatically at 1 m and shows depth and dive time.
- Underwater color. DJI built a color temperature sensor into the "O" of the front logo. DJI says it corrects color temperature underwater and reduces flicker as you change angle.
- Long battery. Rated up to 240 minutes (1080p/24fps, screens off). Cold water drains batteries faster; the Extreme Battery Plus ($54) is rated down to -20°C.
- Front and rear screens for framing yourself.
- 1/1.3-inch sensor, 4K/120 and 10-bit color.
Snorkeling vs diving
- Snorkeling, pools and surf: use the camera bare. A floating hand grip helps you not lose it.
- Scuba below 20 m, long dives, or water skiing and jet skis: use the Waterproof Case. DJI recommends the case for long underwater sessions and high water-impact pressure.
- Never use it in hot springs or corrosive liquids, per DJI.
Before and after every swim
- Check the glass lens cover and screens for cracks.
- Close the battery door and USB-C cover fully, and tighten the lens cover.
- After salt water or chlorine, rinse in fresh water and air-dry completely before opening covers or charging.
Tips for better underwater video
- Stay shallow when you can: color fades quickly with depth.
- Get close to subjects; water reduces contrast and sharpness.
- Keep the sun behind you on sunny days.
- Use a wrist strap or tether.
Action 4 or Action 5 Pro?
The Action 4 ($263) is a fine budget choice for snorkeling at 18 m. The Action 5 Pro adds 2 m of depth, longer battery life, the dive display and color sensor. See Action 5 Pro vs Action 4.
