Can the DJI Power 2000 work as a UPS or home backup?

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

Yes, the DJI Power 2000 works as a basic UPS. Plug it into the wall, plug your device into it, and turn on AC: if the power goes out, it takes over in about 0.01 seconds (10 ms). That's fine for a computer, router or fridge, but DJI says it is not a 0 ms UPS and shouldn't be used for equipment like medical devices that can't tolerate any gap. For home backup, it runs essentials through an outage, not your whole house.

Power 2000 as a UPS
DJI's manual calls this a basic UPS that switches in 0.01 s, not 0 ms. DJI recommends one device at a time in UPS mode, and grid-tied features only in some regions.

How to use UPS mode

  1. Plug the Power 2000's AC input into a wall outlet and turn the station on.
  2. Plug your device into one of its AC outlets.
  3. Press the AC button. UPS is on when the UPS icon shows on the screen.

While the grid is up, wall power runs both your device and the station. When it drops, the station switches over automatically.

Limits to know

  • 10 ms, not 0 ms. DJI's manual is explicit: no 0 ms seamless switching. Don't use it for medical equipment such as oxygen concentrators or devices that reset on any interruption.
  • One device at a time is recommended. DJI warns that several devices can trigger overload protection and cut power.
  • Bypass output is lower. While passing grid power through, the US model's AC output is rated at 12 A (about 1440 W at 120 V), versus 25 A from the battery. Keep UPS loads modest.
  • Not available everywhere. DJI says UPS may be unavailable or power-limited in some regions due to local rules.

Home backup: what it can run

With 2048 Wh and 3000 W output, a single Power 2000 can carry a fridge, lights, internet and phone charging for many hours, or a CPAP for several nights. Rough guide: 2048 Wh × 0.85 ÷ your total watts = hours.

Backup load Approx. watts Approx. hours
Router, modem, phone charging 30 W 2+ days
Fridge, average 150 W About 12
Fridge + lights + Wi-Fi 300 W About 6
Gas furnace blower 400 to 800 W About 2 to 4

Need longer? Each Expansion Battery 2000 adds 2048 Wh, up to 10 packs and 22,528 Wh. See Power 2000 expansion battery.

Hardwired circuits: the Power 2000 powers devices plugged into its outlets. DJI's manual doesn't describe a home panel or transfer-switch kit for it. To back up hardwired loads like a furnace or well pump, talk to a licensed electrician about a properly installed transfer switch; never backfeed a house through an outlet.

Grid-tied ESS and feed-in

DJI added Energy Optimization in July 2025 firmware:

  • Scheduled Periods: charge in off-peak hours, power your devices in peak hours. Works without solar.
  • Grid-Tied ESS: for homes with a solar system and an optional smart meter (such as supported Shelly models). The station plugs into a wall socket and supplies up to 800 W to household loads to cut grid use, while charging at up to 2200 W.

DJI says grid-tied functions are only supported in some countries and regions, and that you must submit a grid connection request to your utility first. In the US, check DJI's FAQ for availability and ask your utility about its interconnection rules before trying any grid-tied setup. Scheduled Periods and UPS work without any of that.

Tips for outage readiness

  • Keep it stored at 50% to 70% for long-term health, then top it up when a storm is forecast.
  • Hold the AC button (solid light) so outlets don't time out.
  • Plan a recharge path: solar with DJI's 1.8kW Solar/Car Super Fast Charger or the MPPT module, or a car charger. See Power 2000 charging time.

Features and regional availability are set by DJI and may change. This is general information, not electrical advice.
