The DJI Flip has no built-in microphone, so the video files on the drone have no sound. That's normal, not a fault. To get audio, turn on app recording in DJI Fly before you start filming: your phone's built-in mic, a DJI Mic 2 or Bluetooth earbuds record the sound, and DJI Fly merges it into the video when you view or download the clip in the app's album.

Why your Flip video has no sound
- The drone itself only records picture. DJI's spec sheet lists no microphone.
- Audio only exists if app recording was on before you pressed record. DJI says it can't be switched on or off mid-clip.
- The audio is stored by DJI Fly, then merged when you view or download the clip in the DJI Fly album. Files copied straight off the microSD card or over USB may not include that audio.
How to record audio
- Connect the Flip to DJI Fly on your phone.
- In the camera view, open the settings menu and go to Camera, then enable app recording.
- Pick a noise reduction effect.
- Connect your mic if you're using one. DJI supports the phone's built-in mic, DJI Mic 2 and Bluetooth earphones.
- A microphone icon appears in the live view. Press record.
- Keep DJI Fly open. DJI says not to turn off the screen or switch apps while recording.
- Afterward, view or download the clip in DJI Fly's album to get the version with sound.
DJI publishes a Bluetooth device compatibility list on the DJI Flip downloads page. Some earbuds have compatibility issues, so test yours before an important shoot.
Which mic to use
| Mic | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Phone mic | Quick clips where you hold the phone | Picks up prop noise if the drone is close |
| Bluetooth earbuds | Talking while you walk | Check DJI's compatibility list |
| DJI Mic 2 | Vlogging, clear voice | Clip it on; DJI lists it as supported |
A clip-on mic at your mouth is the best way to keep the drone's propeller noise out of your voice track.
Voice control is different
DJI Fly can also take spoken commands for the Flip, in English or Mandarin, depending on the app language. That uses the mic to control the drone; it isn't the same as recording audio into your video. See Flip gestures and palm control.
Adding sound later
Most Flip footage gets music or a voiceover in editing anyway. DJI Fly includes quick editing tools for clips you've imported, and any desktop or phone editor can lay music or narration under the footage.
Still no sound?
- Confirm the mic icon showed in the live view during recording.
- Update DJI Fly and the Flip firmware; app recording arrived in DJI's January 2025 firmware. See Flip firmware update.
- Download through DJI Fly instead of copying the card. See Flip transfer.
For better voice audio, pair the DJI Flip with a DJI Mic 2. Start with Flip record video for camera settings.
