Does the DJI Mini 4 Pro record audio?

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

No. The DJI Mini 4 Pro has no microphone, so every video it records is silent. That's normal and not a fault. DJI's specs list video formats, bitrates and color modes but no audio recording, and the same is true of almost every camera drone: the only thing a mic on the drone would hear is its own propellers. To add sound, record audio separately and combine it in editing.

Adding sound to Mini 4 Pro video
The Mini 4 Pro records silent video by design. Any audio comes from a separate recorder and is added in editing.

If your clips play silent on your phone or computer, nothing is broken. There's no setting to turn audio on and no hidden microphone. The DJI RC 2 and RC-N2 controllers don't record your voice into the video file either.

Why drones don't record audio

  • Propeller noise. Four props spinning a few inches from any mic would drown out everything else.
  • Wind. Air rushing past the drone adds constant noise.
  • Weight. At 249 g the Mini 4 Pro has no spare grams for extra hardware.

How to add audio to Mini 4 Pro footage

Music: the simplest option. Add a track in your editor (Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut, CapCut and others) or in DJI's mobile editing tools. Use licensed or royalty-free music if you'll post publicly.

Your voice or narration: record yourself while the drone films, then line up the two in your editor.

  • A phone voice memo works.
  • A wireless mic system like the DJI Mic 2 records cleaner audio. Its transmitters can record internally, so you can clip one on and fly.
  • Clap once on camera at the start to make syncing easy.

Ambient sound: for waves, a waterfall or a city, record a minute of sound from the ground with your phone or a recorder, away from the drone. Lay it under the drone clip.

Recording audio while you fly

Keep your attention on the drone. Set up the recorder before takeoff, start it, then fly. Don't fiddle with your phone mid-flight, and if you use your phone in DJI Fly as the screen (RC-N2), a separate recorder is safer than a phone voice memo running in the background.

What about the drone's sound for effect?

If you want the actual buzz of a drone for a video, record it from the ground with a separate recorder. The Mini 4 Pro itself can't capture it.

Since sound has to be added later, focus on getting the picture right in the air: 4K at 24, 25 or 30 fps, D-Log M or HLG for grading, and ND filters for natural motion blur. See best Mini 4 Pro settings and how to record video on the Mini 4 Pro.
