Does the DJI Flip do waypoints? What to use instead

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

No, the DJI Flip doesn't do waypoints. Waypoint Flight isn't in DJI's Flip user manual, Flip FAQ or Flip firmware release notes, so you can't plan and save a multi-point route the way you can on the Mini 4 Pro or Air 3S. The Flip does have other automated flight modes, including POI orbits, Cruise Control, QuickShots, MasterShots and Hyperlapse, which cover many of the same shots.

Need waypoints?
Waypoint Flight isn't listed in DJI's Flip manual, FAQ or release notes. These are the Flip's closest built-in alternatives.

What the Flip can automate

Mode What it does Good for
FocusTrack: POI Circles a subject at a set radius and speed Orbits around a person
FocusTrack: Spotlight Keeps the camera on a subject while you fly Manual moves with locked framing
FocusTrack: ActiveTrack Follows a moving person Walking, biking, running
Cruise Control Holds a constant speed hands-free Long, smooth passes
QuickShots Preset flight moves, such as Boomerang Social clips
MasterShots Picks a set of classic moves around the subject One-tap edits
Hyperlapse Timed photos turned into a short video Clouds, traffic, sunsets

DJI notes the Flip's tracking modes work on people only.

Getting a waypoint-like shot on the Flip

For a smooth straight line: set a controller button to Cruise Control in DJI Fly, push the sticks to the speed and direction you want, and press the button. The Flip keeps going while you work the gimbal. Press Flight Pause to stop.

For an orbit: use FocusTrack and choose POI, select the subject on screen, and set radius and speed.

For repeatable framing: note your takeoff spot and altitude, and fly the same path manually. It won't be frame-perfect, but it's close enough for many before-and-after clips.

Drones with Waypoint Flight

Why choose the Flip anyway

The Flip's fold-out full propeller guards, palm takeoff and 48 MP camera make it one of the easiest drones to fly near people and for vlogs. If waypoints aren't a must, it's a strong, simple choice. Compare it in Flip vs Mini 4 Pro, or shop the DJI Flip.
