The DJI Flip weighs less than 249 g (about 0.55 lb or 8.8 oz) ready to fly, including the Intelligent Flight Battery and a microSD card. That keeps it under the FAA's 250 g line, so recreational pilots in the US don't need to register it. The battery alone is about 83.5 g, roughly a third of the total.

DJI Flip weight and size
| Item | Figure |
|---|---|
| Takeoff weight (battery + microSD) | under 249 g |
| Battery | approx. 83.5 g |
| Folded size | 136 × 62 × 165 mm |
| Unfolded size | 233 × 280 × 79 mm |
| EU class | C0 |
DJI notes that the actual weight of each unit can vary slightly with production batches. Its EU C0 declaration lists a maximum takeoff mass of 249 g.
The "exact weight" people search for isn't published beyond "under 249 g". DJI designs its sub-250 g drones to stay just under that line, and that's the figure that matters legally.
Why 249 g matters in the US
The FAA treats drones under 250 g differently for recreational flying:
- No registration and no $5 fee.
- No Remote ID broadcast required.
- You still need the free TRUST certificate and must follow the same airspace, 400 ft and line-of-sight rules.
For business use under Part 107, weight doesn't help: every drone must be registered and broadcast Remote ID. The Flip doesn't have Standard Remote ID built in; see Flip Remote ID.
Don't push it over 250 g
There's very little margin, so anything you add counts:
- Third-party lights, GPS trackers or mounts
- Heavy stickers or skins
- Accessories attached to the guards or body (DJI's specs list one battery for the Flip, the 3110 mAh standard pack)
At 250 g or more the Flip would need registration and Remote ID even for fun. DJI's own C0 rules for Europe also say not to add payloads.
Weight and flying
Light weight is great for travel and for flying near people, especially with the Flip's full propeller guards. The trade-off is wind. The Flip is rated for 10.7 m/s (Level 5) wind, lower than heavier drones like the Air 3S at 12 m/s. See Flip wind resistance.
How the Flip compares
| Drone | Weight | Registration for hobby use? |
|---|---|---|
| DJI Neo | 135 g | No |
| DJI Flip | under 249 g | No |
| DJI Mini 4 Pro | under 249 g (standard battery) | No |
| DJI Avata 2 | 377 g | Yes |
| DJI Air 3S | 724 g | Yes |
The Mini 4 Pro goes over 250 g with its Plus battery. More in drone under 250 g rules and best drone under 250 g.
Traveling with the Flip
The folded Flip fits in a small bag, and its 22.3 Wh battery is well under the 100 Wh airline limit. Spare batteries go in your carry-on. See traveling with a drone.
