The DJI Neo weighs about 135 g (0.30 lb, or about 4.8 oz) ready to fly, with the battery and propeller guards installed. That's well under 250 g, so recreational pilots in the US don't need to register it with the FAA. It's one of DJI's lightest drones, which makes it easy to carry but also more affected by wind.

Neo weight breakdown
| Part | Weight (DJI) |
|---|---|
| Neo, ready to fly | About 135 g |
| Intelligent Flight Battery | About 45 g |
| Propeller guards (pair) | 5.3 g |
| Propellers (pair) | 5.3 g |
| Size (L x W x H) | 130 x 157 x 48.5 mm (5.1 x 6.2 x 1.9 in) |
DJI's EU class documents list the Neo's maximum takeoff mass as 135 g, with only the DJI propellers, guards and battery as qualified parts. Inch conversions are ours.
Why 135 g matters
FAA registration. Recreational drones under 250 g don't need registration, so the Neo doesn't, and it doesn't need to broadcast Remote ID for hobby flying. You still need to pass the free TRUST test and follow the rules. Fly it for pay, though, and Part 107 requires registration and Remote ID at any weight. See Neo license.
Europe. The Neo is a C0 class drone in the EU, the lightest category. Rules differ by country; see traveling with a drone.
Wind. Light drones get pushed around. DJI rates the Neo for winds up to 8 m/s (about 18 mph), lower than heavier DJI drones. See Neo wind resistance.
Palm launches. The light weight and full propeller guards are why DJI designed the Neo to take off from and land on your hand.
Can you add accessories?
DJI says not to add any payload except the listed qualified items, and not to fit an extra payload to the gimbal. Add-ons like third-party lights, cameras or mounts:
- push the takeoff weight up, cutting flight time and wind handling,
- can make the drone unstable or unable to take off,
- take it out of its C0 class in Europe,
- may affect warranty and DJI Care Refresh claims.
If you add equipment and the total reaches 250 g, US recreational registration applies. More in Neo lights.
