An ESC error on the DJI Mavic 3 Pro means the flight controller found a fault in one of the electronic speed controllers that drive its four motors, or lost contact with it. One error after a rough landing can clear with a restart. If it comes back, ground the drone. A Mavic 3 Pro with a failing ESC or motor can lose thrust in flight, and that's an expensive drone to drop.

What the ESC board is
The ESCs turn battery power into the fast, precisely timed current each motor needs. On the Mavic 3 Pro they sit on an internal board inside the airframe. Replacement "ESC boards" are sold online, but fitting one means opening the drone, which is a job for DJI and can affect warranty and Care Refresh coverage.
DJI's manual asks you to make sure the motors are mounted securely and rotating smoothly, to land immediately if a motor is stuck, and not to modify the motor structure.
Common causes
- Grit, sand or grass in a motor after a landing
- A bent shaft or damaged motor bell from a crash or a drop in the bag
- Moisture from rain, fog or water
- A loose battery or dirty contacts
- An interrupted firmware update
Fixes to try, in order
- Restart cleanly. Power off, remove the battery, check the contacts, and reinsert it firmly. Remove the storage cover before powering on.
- Spin each motor by hand with the drone off. Smooth and even is good. Grinding, a notchy feel or a wobble is not.
- Clear debris with a hand blower. No tools inside the motor.
- Inspect the props and arms. Replace any chipped or bent prop, and check that each arm unfolds fully.
- Update or refresh firmware. Update the aircraft and controller in DJI Fly. If that fails, refresh it with DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drones Series) on a computer.
- Test carefully. If the error clears, hover low over grass for a minute and watch for any warning before a real flight.
When to send it in
Start a repair if:
- The ESC error returns after the steps above
- A motor won't spin up, stutters or runs much hotter than the others
- The drone tilts or twitches on takeoff
- The error followed a crash or water exposure
ESC and motor repairs are done by DJI. With Care Refresh for the Mavic 3 Pro, crash and water damage go through the plan for a fixed fee. Without it, see DJI warranty in the USA for what's covered.
For the same error on other models, read DJI ESC error and motor not spinning. More on the drone is in the Mavic 3 Pro guide.
