Protecting your DJI Mini 3: DJI Care Refresh, warranty and insurance

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

The best protection for a DJI Mini 3 is DJI Care Refresh if you can get it: DJI's published US replacement fees for the Mini 3 are just $39 for damage and $169 for a flyaway. But DJI's US store now lists the 1-year Mini 3 plan ($69) as discontinued, so most new owners will need another route: careful setup, DJI's warranty for defects, and drone insurance for crashes and liability.

DJI's US Care Refresh fees for the Mini 3 are low, but DJI's US store now lists the plan as discontinued. Existing plans still work.

1. DJI's warranty

Every new Mini 3 from an authorized dealer comes with DJI's manufacturer warranty. It covers defects and failures in normal use. Coverage periods vary by part (aircraft, gimbal camera, battery, controller), so check DJI's warranty policy for your product.

It doesn't cover crashes, water damage or unauthorized repairs. Keep your receipt and the serial number. See DJI warranty in the USA.

2. DJI Care Refresh for the Mini 3

Damage replacement fee $39
Flyaway replacement fee $169
Water damage Covered
Replacements 2 in one year

Fees are from DJI's published US and Canada fee table and can change.

Already have a plan? It's still valid. File claims through DJI support as usual. Flyaway coverage requires the drone to be bound to your DJI account and linked to its controller before it's lost. See how to claim DJI Care Refresh and check DJI Care status.

Buying now? Check DJI's site at checkout in case the plan returns, but don't count on it. Care Refresh must normally be bought before activation or within 48 hours of it. See DJI Care Refresh.

3. Insurance

Care Refresh fixes your drone. It never pays if your drone hurts someone or damages property.

  • Hull coverage pays to repair or replace the drone itself. On a $461 drone, compare the premium and deductible with simply budgeting for repairs.
  • Liability coverage pays if the drone injures someone or damages property. The FAA doesn't require it for recreational pilots, but it's smart. Some homeowners policies exclude drones.
  • Part 107 pilots: many clients ask for a certificate of liability insurance.

See drone insurance and does homeowners insurance cover drones.

Which should you get?

  • Have Care Refresh already: keep it; it's the cheapest fix.
  • New hobby pilot, no plan available: liability insurance plus careful flying. Budget for props and one repair.
  • Paid work: liability insurance, plus hull cover if a lost drone would stop a job.

Cheap ways to avoid a claim

The Mini 3 has no forward, rear or side obstacle sensing, so most crashes are pilot error into trees and wires.

  • Set RTH altitude above local obstacles every time. See Mini 3 home point.
  • Fly in open areas and use Cine mode near anything solid. See Mini 3 obstacle avoidance.
  • Respect the 10.7 m/s wind rating, and stay out of rain; it isn't waterproof.
  • Bind the drone to your DJI account and keep firmware updated.
  • Carry spare props. See Mini 3 propellers.

Coverage, fees and time limits are set by DJI and insurers and can change. Current as of October 2026.

If something breaks, read Mini 3 repair or contact our repair desk. Buying a new drone? See the DJI Mini 3, or pick a model with current US Care Refresh, like the Mini 4 Pro.
