DJI Mini 4 Pro repair: arms, gimbal and motor replacement

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

On the DJI Mini 4 Pro, you can safely replace the propellers and the battery yourself. Broken arms, motors, the gimbal and camera, and the vision sensors should go to DJI repair or an experienced repair center, or be replaced through DJI Care Refresh if you have it. DJI's manual says not to use the prop screwdriver to take the aircraft apart and not to modify the motors. The gimbal is a precision part, and a rough DIY fix usually costs image quality.

DIY or send for repair?
Propellers and batteries are user-replaceable. DJI's manual warns against disassembling the aircraft or modifying motors; leave the rest to DJI or a repair center.

Step 1: Check the damage safely

  1. Power off and remove the battery.
  2. Inspect every prop for chips or cracks. Replace damaged ones in pairs. See Mini 4 Pro propellers.
  3. Spin each motor by hand. It should turn smoothly with no grinding.
  4. Check the arms for cracks, and that each one folds and locks firmly.
  5. Look at the gimbal: does the camera hang crooked or move freely when it shouldn't?
  6. Check the camera glass and the vision sensor windows for cracks or scratches.
  7. Check the battery for swelling, dents or a loose fit. Don't use a damaged battery.

If anything beyond props is damaged, don't test-fly it. A cracked arm or a rough motor can fail in the air.

Parts you can replace yourself

Part DIY? Notes
Propellers Yes Mini 4 Pro / Mini 3 Pro props, screw-mounted
Battery Yes Mini 4 Pro battery
Gimbal protector, propeller holder Yes Included in the box
Arms, motors, ESCs No Requires opening the aircraft
Gimbal and camera No Precision assembly, needs calibration
Vision sensors No Need factory-level calibration

Third-party arm, gimbal and motor parts are sold online. Fitting them means opening the drone, and any damage done in the process isn't covered by DJI.

Gimbal problems

Signs: a tilted horizon, a "gimbal motor overloaded" warning, shaky footage, or a camera that won't level. First:

  • Make sure the gimbal protector is off before power-on. DJI says to remove it before turning the drone on.
  • Run gimbal calibration in DJI Fly (Settings > Control > Gimbal Settings).
  • Update firmware.

If it's still wrong, it needs service. Don't bend the gimbal by hand. See Mini 4 Pro gimbal motor overloaded and horizon tilted.

Motor and arm damage

A motor that grinds, won't start or triggers an ESC error needs repair. DJI says to land immediately if a motor sticks, and not to modify motors. Grit can sometimes be cleared with compressed air, but a bent shaft or cracked arm means replacement. See Mini 4 Pro ESC error.

Your repair options

  • DJI Care Refresh: if you have it, use it first. You pay a set replacement fee and get a replacement drone. See how to claim DJI Care Refresh.
  • DJI repair service: open a request at DJI Support. DJI quotes after inspection. Defects under warranty are covered; crash damage isn't.
  • Our repair desk: we assess the damage and arrange the fix, for drones bought from us or elsewhere. Start at repair.

The Mini 4 Pro stays legal to own, fly and repair in the US, though parts prices have risen with 2026 tariffs. See DJI ban: repairs and parts.

Prevent the next one

  • Keep obstacle avoidance on Bypass or Brake, and avoid Sport mode near obstacles.
  • Set RTH altitude above nearby trees before every flight.
  • Respect the 10.7 m/s wind rating.
  • Add Care Refresh within 48 hours of activation on a new drone.
