The best protection for a DJI Neo is DJI Care Refresh, bought with the drone or within 48 hours of activating it. On DJI's US store, the 1-Year plan lists at $29 and gives two replacements for $19 each, covering crashes, water damage and one flyaway (an $89 fee). DJI's warranty covers defects only, and unlike most DJI drones, the Neo's Care Refresh can't be renewed.

1. DJI's warranty
A new Neo bought from an authorized dealer comes with DJI's manufacturer warranty against defects in normal use. Periods vary by part, so check DJI's after-sales policy. It doesn't cover crashes, water damage, loss or unauthorized repairs. DJI also says a battery that hasn't been charged or discharged for three months or more is no longer covered. See DJI warranty in the USA.

| Replacement fee | $19 each | $19 each |
| Flyaway fee | $89 | $89 |

| Renewable | No | No |
Prices and fees are from DJI's US store in October 2026 and can change. Availability of each plan can vary. DJI quotes a 3-day average replacement time and free two-way shipping.
The 48-hour rule. Buy Care Refresh for a new, unactivated Neo or within 48 hours of activation. After that, DJI asks for online video verification; if approved, you have 72 hours to buy.
No renewal. DJI states that the Neo doesn't support Care Refresh renewal. If you want two years, choose the 2-Year plan up front.
Flyaway cover needs the Neo bound to your DJI account (Profile > Device Management in DJI Fly) and linked to a remote controller before the loss. A flyaway is reported with the bound controller, so palm and phone pilots should note this.

3. Insurance
- Recreational: the FAA doesn't require insurance. Liability cover is still sensible if you fly near people. See does homeowners insurance cover drones.
- Part 107: clients often ask for proof of liability insurance. See drone insurance.
Is Care Refresh worth it on a $186 drone?
Usually yes. $29 plus a $19 fee is far less than a new Neo, and the Neo has no obstacle sensing, so bumps are common. It also covers water, which matters because the Neo isn't waterproof. If you fly rarely and gently, skipping it is reasonable.
Cheap ways to avoid a claim
- Fly in open spaces with good light; the Neo has no obstacle avoidance. See Neo obstacle avoidance.
- Use a controller beyond 50 m so Return to Home is available.
- Stay out of wind over 8 m/s and never fly in rain. See Neo waterproof.
- Store it so the propellers aren't squeezed; DJI says bent props hurt performance.
Coverage, fees and time limits are set by DJI and insurers and can change. Current as of October 2026.
