Does the DJI Neo have Remote ID? Serial number and FAA registration

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

The DJI Neo doesn't have Standard Remote ID built in. For recreational flying that's fine: at about 135 g it's under 250 g, so it doesn't need FAA registration or Remote ID. If you fly it under Part 107 for work, it must be registered and broadcast Remote ID, so you'd need to attach a Remote ID broadcast module. The Neo's serial number is in DJI Fly, on the box label, and on the drone itself.

Does your Neo need Remote ID?
Remote ID applies to drones that must be registered. The Neo weighs about 135 g, so recreational flights are exempt; Part 107 flights at any weight are not.

Why the Neo has no Remote ID

The FAA's Remote ID rule applies to every drone that's registered or required to be registered. Recreational drones under 250 g aren't, so DJI didn't need to build Standard Remote ID into the Neo. DJI's help center says its new drones weighing more than 250 g have Remote ID built in. The Neo's user manual has no FAA Remote ID section, unlike DJI's heavier drones. To check any model yourself, search the FAA's Remote ID declaration list.

Part 107 pilots: your options

Under Part 107, every drone must be registered and broadcast Remote ID, whatever it weighs. With a Neo you can:

  1. Fit a Remote ID broadcast module. When you register the Neo at FAADroneZone, enter the module's Remote ID serial number. You must keep the drone in sight for the whole flight.
  2. Fly at an FAA-Recognized Identification Area (FRIA), the only places a drone can fly without broadcasting.
  3. Use a drone with built-in Remote ID. That's simpler for regular paid work.

Before adding a module, think about weight and balance. The Neo is tuned for 135 g, and DJI says not to add payloads beyond its qualified parts. A module adds weight, shortens flights and can affect handling. See Remote ID explained.

Where to find the Neo's serial number

  • DJI Fly: with a controller linked, open the camera view, tap the ··· menu, then About > Serial Number. DJI calls this the flight controller SN.
  • Box label: the serial number is printed on the sticker on the retail box.
  • On the drone: DJI prints the serial number on the aircraft body. DJI's online SN lookup shows where it is for each model.

You'll need the serial number for DJI Care Refresh, warranty and repair requests. Write it down when you unbox the drone.

Registering a Neo you fly for fun

You can register a recreational drone under 250 g voluntarily, but you don't have to. If you add accessories that push the Neo to 250 g or more, registration becomes required. Registration is $5 for 3 years at FAADroneZone. See FAA registration.
