DJI Neo repair: arms, gimbal and motor replacement

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

On the DJI Neo, the parts you can replace yourself are the propellers, the propeller guards and the battery. DJI sells all three as spare parts, and the Neo comes with a screwdriver for the propeller screws. For a broken arm, damaged gimbal or camera, or a motor fault, DJI's own repair guide says to replace the aircraft, so send it to DJI or use DJI Care Refresh. In the US, a Care Refresh replacement for the Neo costs $19.

DJI Neo damaged: what next?
DJI's repair guide for its Avata and Neo series lists a broken arm, gimbal arm or camera, or a propulsion fault, as 'replace the aircraft'. Props, guards and batteries are user parts.

Step 1: Check the damage

  1. Power off and remove the battery.
  2. Check each propeller for chips, cracks, bends or loose screws.
  3. Spin each motor by hand. It should turn freely, with no grinding.
  4. Look over the propeller guards and the body for cracks.
  5. Check the camera glass and the downward sensors underneath.
  6. Check the battery for swelling and a firm click when inserted.

DJI says not to fly the Neo right after a collision or hard knock, because it may not fly stably. If anything beyond the props is damaged, don't test-fly it.

Neo parts: DIY or not?

Part DIY? Notes
Propellers Yes Screw-on, use the Neo's screwdriver
Propeller guards Yes Clip-on, remove with the drone off
Battery Yes Neo Intelligent Flight Battery
Arms and motors No DJI lists "replace the aircraft"
Gimbal and camera No DJI lists "replace the aircraft"
Sensors No Need factory calibration

Replacing props and guards

  • Remove the propeller guards before touching the props.
  • Marked props go on the motors of the marked arms; unmarked on unmarked.
  • Use only the screwdriver from the Neo's box. DJI says other screwdrivers can damage the screws, and it isn't meant for opening the drone.
  • Keep screws straight while tightening, then spin each prop to check for rubbing.
  • Re-check screw tightness every 15 hours of flying (about 60 flights).

Gimbal and camera problems

A tilted horizon, shaking footage or a "gimbal motor overloaded" warning can be a simple obstruction. Remove the gimbal protector before powering on, and launch from a flat surface so grass doesn't block the gimbal. DJI's manual says the gimbal can enter protection mode after an impact; wait for it to recover or restart the drone. For gimbal drift, DJI suggests calibrating the IMU and compass in DJI Fly. If problems persist, it needs service. See Neo gimbal motor overloaded.

Your repair options

  • DJI Care Refresh: $19 per damage replacement and $89 for a flyaway in the US. See Neo protection.
  • DJI repair service: request a repair through DJI Support. Defects under warranty are covered; crash damage is quoted after inspection.
  • Our repair desk: we can assess it and arrange the fix. Start at repair.

With a $186 drone, compare the repair quote against a new Neo before paying for out-of-warranty work. For how the FCC's December 2025 decision affects parts, see DJI ban: repairs and parts.

Avoid the next repair

  • The Neo has no obstacle sensing; fly in the open.
  • Store it so nothing presses on the propellers. DJI warns that squeezed props deform and lose thrust.
  • Clear debris from the air intakes on both sides after flights.
