DJI Neo propellers: replacement, upgrades and quiet props

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

DJI Neo propellers screw onto the motors and sit under the propeller guards, so you remove the guards first, then unscrew each prop with the small screwdriver that comes with the Neo. Props come in two types: marked props go on the motors of the marked arms, unmarked on unmarked. DJI sells only one Neo propeller, with no low-noise version, and says to use only official DJI props.

Swapping Neo propellers
From DJI's Neo manual. The propeller guards must come off before you can reach the props, and DJI says to use only the screwdriver from the Neo's box.

What you need

  • DJI Neo Propellers. A spare pair comes in the box, and DJI sells replacements. DJI's EU documents list a pair at 5.3 g.
  • The Neo's screwdriver. DJI says to use only this one; others can strip the screws.
  • Spare screws. DJI's US box contents list four spare propeller screws.

How to replace a propeller

  1. Power off the Neo and remove the battery.
  2. Remove the propeller guards. Release the hooks on a guard and push it off from the center. Repeat for the other.
  3. Unscrew the damaged prop from its motor. If a prop is broken, DJI says to discard both the prop and its screws.
  4. Match the type. Propeller A has marks at its center and goes on the marked arms; propeller B has no marks and goes on the unmarked arms.
  5. Tighten the new screws with the screwdriver held straight, not tilted. The screw heads should sit flush.
  6. Refit the guards. Push each guard toward the body until the middle hook clicks, then press the other four hooks into their holes.
  7. Spin each prop by hand to check for rubbing or resistance.

When to replace props

  • Any chip, crack, bend or worn edge.
  • After a crash, even if they look fine.
  • If the Neo vibrates, sounds different or drifts in hover.

DJI also says to re-tighten propeller screws after every 15 hours of flight time (about 60 flights), and calls props consumables.

Are there quiet or upgraded Neo props?

DJI doesn't make low-noise propellers for the Neo; there's one official propeller. If you see third-party "quiet" or upgraded props, be careful: DJI says to use only official propellers and not to mix types. Non-DJI props can change thrust and noise, take the Neo out of its EU C0 class, and may affect warranty or Care Refresh claims. Most of the Neo's sound comes from small, fast-spinning props, so no prop will make it whisper-quiet.

Can you fly without the guards?

DJI rates flight time at about 18 minutes without the guards and 17 with them. But the guards are what make palm launches and landings safe, and they protect the props in bumps. Leave them on for selfie flying. If you take them off, don't palm launch or land.

Storing the Neo to protect the props

DJI warns that packing the Neo badly can squeeze and bend the props, which reduces thrust. Use a case that doesn't press on the guards.
