Yes, the Osmo Mobile 6 extends. Its built-in extension rod pulls out up to 215 mm (about 8.5 inches), and the pivot at the top tilts anywhere from 0 to 90°. That turns it into a short selfie stick with stabilization, and lets you hold the phone low to the ground. A grip tripod in the box screws into the bottom for hands-free shots.

How to use the rod
- Pull the rod out to the length you need, up to 215 mm.
- Rotate the pivot on top to set the angle, from straight (0°) to 90°.
- Re-center with two presses of the trigger if the view drifts.
Retract the rod fully before folding the gimbal for storage.
What the rod is good for
- Selfie vlogs: more background and less "arm's-length" face.
- Group shots: fits more people without a separate stick.
- Low Position mode: extend the rod and angle it for shots near the ground, like pets, kids or walking feet.
- Bigger tilt range: DJI suggests extending the rod and setting the pan motor level with the ground to get the most tilt.
- Parents & Kids mode: DJI recommends pulling out a section of the rod and placing the gimbal on a surface.
Is it a selfie stick or a tripod?
Both, sort of. The rod is a short selfie stick, not a long pole: 215 mm adds reach, but it won't give you the high overhead view of a 1 m or longer stick. For tripod use, screw the included grip tripod (138 mm long, about 72 g) into the 1/4"-20 port on the bottom. DJI says the DJI OM 5 tripod fits too, and any standard tripod with a 1/4"-20 screw works.
Tripod ideas:
- Timelapse and Motionlapse with the gimbal panning between set positions.
- ActiveTrack to follow you around a room while you talk.
- Video calls or recording a cooking or craft session from a desk.
See modes and tracking for the shooting modes that use the tripod well.
Osmo Mobile 6 vs SE: the rod is the difference
The Osmo Mobile SE has no extension rod. If you shoot selfies or groups often, that's the main reason to pay more for the OM 6. Full comparison: Osmo Mobile 6 vs SE.
Rod care
- Don't swing the phone around on the extended rod; it's built for framing, not for force.
- Wipe off sand and grit before retracting it.
- The gimbal isn't waterproof, so keep the rod out of rain and spray.
