Yes, if you shoot video on your phone and want it smooth. The Osmo Mobile 6 is a foldable 3-axis phone gimbal with a built-in 215 mm extension rod, a magnetic clamp, a zoom and focus wheel and ActiveTrack in the DJI Mimo app, for $120 at our store. It's not waterproof, the battery is shorter than newer models, and tracking only works inside DJI Mimo, so check those limits against how you shoot.

What the Osmo Mobile is
A handheld stabilizer for smartphones. Three motors (pan, tilt and roll) cancel out hand shake and footsteps, so walking shots look like they were filmed on a slider. The phone snaps on with a magnetic clamp, and the free DJI Mimo app adds tracking, timelapses and panoramas.

What it does well
- Extension rod. Selfie vlogs, group shots and low angles without a separate stick. See extension rod.
- Fast setup. Unfold and it powers on; DJI says no balancing is needed.
- Side wheel for smooth zoom or manual focus.
- ActiveTrack that follows a person or object you select in Mimo, plus gesture control. See modes and tracking.
- Portable. Folds to about the size of a large phone.
The downsides
- Not waterproof. DJI says so plainly. Keep it out of rain and sand.
- Battery is about 6.4 hours, vs about 8 on the Osmo Mobile SE and about 10 on the OM 7 series. You can't replace it yourself, and it can't charge your phone. See battery life.
- Tracking lives in DJI Mimo. Your phone's own camera app gets stabilization but not ActiveTrack.
- Heavy phones. Over 290 g with case, lens or mic, it struggles.
Osmo Mobile 6 vs 7
The Osmo Mobile 7 and 7P add a built-in tripod, about 10 hours of battery and phone charging; the 7P adds a tracking module that works in other apps. The OM 6 keeps a longer rod than the base OM 7 (which has none) and costs less. We don't stock the 7 series right now. Full comparison: Osmo Mobile 6 vs 7 and 8.
Who should buy it
- Buy the OM 6 for travel vlogs, family videos, talking-to-camera clips and group selfies.
- Buy the Osmo Mobile SE if you don't need the rod and want the lowest price and longer battery.
- Skip both if you need tracking in TikTok or your phone's camera app, or want better image quality than a phone.
