DJI rates the DJI Avata 2 at up to 23 minutes of flight and 21 minutes of hover per battery. In real FPV flying, expect roughly 15 to 20 minutes for relaxed cruising with a safe reserve, and less if you fly fast in Sport mode or do a lot of Easy ACRO. A battery recharges in about 45 minutes in the Two-Way Charging Hub, or about 88 minutes inside the drone.

How DJI measured 23 minutes
DJI's figure comes from steady forward flight at 21.6 km/h (about 13 mph) in a windless test at sea level, with the camera set to 1080p/30 but not recording, from 100% down to 0%. Hover time (21 minutes) was measured with video off. Nobody flies like that: real flights include climbs, fast passes, braking and wind, and you land well before 0%.
What drains the Avata 2 battery
- Speed. Sport mode (16 m/s) and Manual mode (up to 27 m/s) burn far more power than Normal mode.
- Aggressive flying. Punch-outs, flips, power loops and rapid climbs pull high current.
- Wind. The Avata 2 is rated for 10.7 m/s. Fighting a headwind drains it fast.
- Cold. Between -10° and 5° C (14° to 41° F) capacity drops sharply. DJI recommends keeping the battery above 20° C (68° F) and hovering briefly after takeoff to warm it.
- Altitude. Thin air above about 3,000 m means harder-working props.
Is there an extended battery?
No. DJI makes one battery for the Avata 2: 2150 mAh, 31.7 Wh, about 145 g. Third-party "high capacity" packs aren't supported, and the charging hub only accepts the official battery. A heavier battery would also hurt agility. The real "battery upgrade" is more batteries: three packs give roughly 45 to 60 minutes of flying per outing.
Charging times
| Method | 0 to 100% | 10 to 90% |
|---|---|---|
| Two-Way Charging Hub (60 W input) | About 45 min | About 30 min |
| In the drone (30 W max) | About 88 min | About 60 min |
The hub charges three batteries one after another, so a full set takes a little over two hours. Details in Avata 2 charge time.
Getting more out of each battery
- Start fully charged and warm.
- Cruise in Normal mode between the exciting bits.
- Turn back at 30% if you're flying away from yourself, since the return costs power too.
- Set RTH altitude before every flight so a low-battery return clears obstacles. See Avata 2 home point.
- Land at the low-battery warning, especially in cold weather.
Battery health
Batteries discharge themselves to 96% after three idle days and 60% after nine, to protect the cells. Charge fully at least once every three months. See drone battery care.
How it compares
At 23 rated minutes, the Avata 2 flies longer than the DJI Neo (18 minutes) but much less than camera drones like the Air 3S (45 minutes). That's the trade-off for a guarded, agile FPV drone. See how long can a drone fly.
