DJI rates the Flip at 31 minutes of flight per battery and 28 minutes of hovering. In real flying, plan on about 25 minutes, because you land with a reserve and wind, cold and Sport mode all drain the battery faster. There's no extended or "Plus" battery for the Flip; DJI sells one 3110 mAh, 22.3 Wh battery. A full charge takes about 70 minutes in the drone or about 45 minutes in the charging hub with a 65W charger.

DJI's numbers
| DJI Flip | |
|---|---|
| Max flight time | 31 min |
| Max hover time | 28 min |
| Max flight distance | 14 km |
| Battery | 3110 mAh, 22.3 Wh, about 83.5 g |
DJI measures the 31 minutes flying forward at a steady 6 m/s in calm air at sea level, with the camera in photo mode, until the battery is fully drained. Hover time is measured at 20 m above sea level from 100% to 0%. Real flights never run to 0%.
Real flight time
- Typical outing: about 25 minutes with a sensible landing reserve.
- Windy day: less. Fighting a headwind takes much more power, and the Flip's rating is 10.7 m/s. See Flip wind resistance.
- Cold weather: less. Warm batteries before flying and land earlier.
- Sport mode and tracking: less, especially at the 12 m/s top speed.
- Palm and app modes: short hops within 50 m, so batteries go further across a day.
Watch the battery warning in DJI Fly. The Flip triggers Low Battery RTH when it has just enough to get home, and lands on its own when the battery is critically low.
Is there an extended battery?
No. DJI makes only the DJI Flip Intelligent Flight Battery. Unlike the Mini 4 Pro or Mini 3, there's no Plus battery option, which keeps the Flip at under 249 g. DJI's C0 rules also say not to use non-qualified batteries. Third-party "extended" packs aren't approved and may push the drone over 250 g, which means FAA registration.
The way to fly longer is more batteries. The Fly More Combo has three, about 75 minutes of real flying.
Charging time
| Method | Time |
|---|---|
| In the drone, 30W charger | About 70 min, 0 to 100% |
| Charging hub, one battery, 65W charger | About 45 min |
| Charging hub, two batteries, 65W charger | About 70 min for both |

Make each battery last
- Start with a full, warm battery.
- Fly Normal or Cine mode for most shots.
- Fly upwind first, so the return is downwind.
- Land at 20 to 30%, not at the warning.
- Don't leave batteries fully charged for weeks. See drone battery care.
Compared with other DJI drones
The Flip's 31 minutes beats the DJI Neo (18) and the Avata 2 (23), but trails the Mini 4 Pro (34) and Mini 3 (38) with standard batteries. Those Minis have no built-in guards, which is part of the trade.
Add a spare DJI Flip battery to your DJI Flip order, or get three in the Fly More Combo.
