How much does the DJI Avata 2 weigh? (and why it matters)

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

The DJI Avata 2 weighs about 377 g (0.83 lb or 13.3 oz) ready to fly, which is DJI's takeoff weight with the battery fitted. The Intelligent Flight Battery alone is about 145 g. That puts the Avata 2 well over the FAA's 250 g line, so you must register it ($5, valid 3 years) even for recreational flying, and it broadcasts Remote ID.

DJI's published weights. The Avata 2's 377 g takeoff weight is well over the FAA's 250 g line, so it must be registered even for fun.

Avata 2 weights

Item Weight
Avata 2, takeoff weight Approx. 377 g (0.83 lb)
Intelligent Flight Battery Approx. 145 g (0.32 lb)
Propellers (pair) 3.4 g
DJI Goggles 3 Approx. 470 g
DJI RC Motion 3 Approx. 118 g
DJI FPV Remote Controller 3 Approx. 240 g

The drone measures 185 x 212 x 64 mm. DJI's C1 statement in the manual gives the maximum takeoff mass, including the microSD card, as 377 g.

In kilograms: 0.377 kg. In grams with battery: 377 g. Subtract the 145 g battery and the airframe is roughly 232 g, but the drone can't fly without a battery, so the takeoff weight is the number that counts for the law.

Why the weight matters

Registration. FAA registration is required for recreational drones at or above 250 g (0.55 lb). The Avata 2 is 127 g over. Register at FAADroneZone and mark the number on the drone. See FAA registration and Avata 2 license.

Remote ID. Every drone that must be registered must broadcast Remote ID. The Avata 2 has it built in. See Avata 2 Remote ID.

Europe. It's a C1 class drone (under 900 g). DJI warns that adding payloads such as extra guards or lights, or using non-qualified parts, means it can no longer be flown as C1.

Flying. At 377 g with ducted props, the Avata 2 is heavier and more planted than the 135 g DJI Neo, and handles wind better. DJI rates it for winds up to 10.7 m/s. See Avata 2 wind resistance.

Crashes. More mass means more energy in an impact. The guards protect the props, not people. Don't fly over people or moving vehicles.

Adding accessories

Every gram added cuts flight time and agility. Common add-ons:

  • ND filters: DJI lists the Avata 2 ND set at 2.1 g. See Avata 2 ND filters.
  • microSD card: about 0.3 g.
  • Third-party strobes, mounts and bumpers: check their weight, and keep them off the sensors.

Travel weight

For flying with the kit, the drone and three batteries come to about 667 g before goggles and controller. All Avata 2 batteries are 31.7 Wh, well under the 100 Wh airline limit, and spares go in carry-on only. See traveling with a drone.

Want something under 250 g?

If registration-free recreational flying matters, look at the DJI Neo (135 g), which also works with goggles. See Avata 2 vs Neo.
