Can you use a DJI drone battery as a power bank?

UPDATED NOVEMBER 2026

Yes, with the right hub. DJI drone batteries have no USB port of their own, but most DJI two-way and parallel charging hubs have a power bank mode: leave batteries in the hub, unplug the charger, and plug your phone, controller or goggles into the hub's USB port. The hub then drains the lowest battery first. Output ranges from a basic 5 V, 2 A on the Mini hub to up to 100 W USB-C on the Mavic 4 Pro hub.

DJI hubs that work as power banks
Output figures from DJI's hub guides and product pages. Every hub needs at least one battery inserted and no charger connected to work as a power bank.

How to do it

  1. Insert one or more charged batteries into the hub.
  2. Make sure no charger is connected to the hub.
  3. Plug your device into the hub's USB port with a cable.
  4. If charging doesn't start, press the function button on the hub.

Step-by-step hub use is in how to use a DJI charging hub.

Which DJI hubs work as power banks

Hub Power bank output (DJI)
Mini 4 Pro / Mini 3 Two-Way Charging Hub 5 V, 2 A USB
Avata 2 Two-Way Charging Hub USB, 5 V, 2 A for goggles and phones
Neo Two-Way Charging Hub Phones and goggles
Air 3 Series Battery Charging Hub Up to 82 W
Mavic 4 Pro Parallel Charging Hub Up to 100 W USB-C

The higher-output hubs can fast-charge a DJI RC 2 or RC Pro 2, a tablet, or even a USB-C laptop. The Mini hub's 5 V, 2 A is enough for a phone or an RC-N3, but slow. If your hub isn't listed, check its guide before counting on it in the field.

Limits to know

  • Minimum charge. Hubs stop discharging a battery when it gets low. DJI's Avata 2 hub, for example, won't charge a device from a battery below 7%.
  • Charger connected = no power bank. With a charger plugged in, the hub charges the batteries first.
  • Not a big capacity. A Mini 4 Pro battery holds 18.96 Wh. That's a phone top-up or two, not days of power.
  • Heat. Hubs pause when batteries are too hot or cold.
  • Battery health. Repeatedly draining flight batteries to near empty isn't good for them. Recharge soon after, and don't store them flat. See drone battery care.

Third-party adapters

You'll see third-party adapters that clip onto a DJI battery and add USB ports. For current drones, DJI's own route is the hub. Adapters can work, but they skip the hub's safety checks, and a cheap one can damage a battery. If you want a power bank in the field, a DJI hub is the safer way.

Osmo Action batteries

For action cameras, the Osmo Multifunctional Battery Case 3 holds three Action batteries and two microSD cards, charges them, and works as a power bank for your phone.

Power accumulation: the other trick

The Air 3 series, Avata 2 and Mavic 4 Pro hubs can also move leftover charge from several part-used batteries into the fullest one. At the end of a session, three half-empty batteries can become one usable flight.

Need more power?

For running a laptop, charging many batteries at a remote site, or camping, a hub isn't enough. A portable power station such as the DJI Power 1000 charges drone batteries fast and runs AC devices too. Compare options in DJI Power 2000 vs Power 1000.

Start with the hub for your drone: the Mini 4 Pro / Mini 3 hub is from $54.
