Neither brand wins outright. DJI is stronger for stabilized vlogging cameras, action cameras with long battery life, and anything that flies. Insta360 is best known for 360 cameras that let you reframe the shot after you film. GoPro sits between them as the classic action camera brand. Choose by the kind of footage you shoot most, not by logo.

DJI's specs below come from DJI's spec pages. For Insta360 and GoPro models, check each maker's official spec sheet, since lineups change often.
Action cameras: Osmo Action 5 Pro
The Osmo Action 5 Pro uses a 1/1.3-inch sensor and records 4K at up to 120 fps with 10-bit color. DJI rates it waterproof to 20 m without a case (60 m with the case) and up to 240 minutes of recording at 1080p/24fps. It has front and rear touchscreens for selfie framing and 47 GB of usable built-in storage.
Insta360's Ace Pro cameras and GoPro's HERO cameras compete directly here. All three use electronic stabilization. The differences that matter in practice are battery life in the cold, low-light noise, mounts you already own, and the editing app you prefer. See Osmo Action 5 Pro vs Insta360 Ace Pro 2.
Vlogging: Osmo Pocket 3
The Osmo Pocket 3 is a different kind of camera: a 1-inch sensor on a real 3-axis mechanical gimbal, with a 2-inch rotating screen and 10-bit D-Log M. Mechanical stabilization keeps a wide-ish 20 mm view without the crop that electronic stabilization needs, and the bigger sensor handles indoor and evening light better than action cameras. If you mostly talk to the camera, walk and travel, this is usually the better pick. More in Osmo Pocket 3 vs Insta360.
360 cameras
A 360 camera records everything around it, then you choose the angle in the app. That makes "invisible selfie stick" shots and reframed edits easy, and you never miss the action behind you. The trade-off is that each final frame uses only part of the sensor, so a flat 16:9 clip from a 360 file is softer than one from a regular camera of the same resolution. Insta360's X series is the best-known option. DJI's answer is the Osmo 360. See Osmo Action 5 Pro vs Insta360 X5.
Market share
Neither company publishes audited market share figures for each camera category, so be wary of exact percentages online. What's clear is that DJI dominates consumer drones and handheld gimbals, while Insta360 is the leading name in consumer 360 cameras.
Buying in the US
DJI cameras authorized by the FCC before December 22, 2025, including the Osmo Action 5 Pro and Osmo Pocket 3, remain legal to buy and use. Newer DJI releases may not be sold here. Details: is the DJI Osmo banned.
