Osmo Mobile 6 vs 7, 7P and 8: which phone gimbal to buy?

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

The Osmo Mobile 6 still does the core job well: 3-axis stabilization, a built-in 215 mm extension rod, ActiveTrack in the DJI Mimo app and about 6.4 hours of battery. The Osmo Mobile 7 and 7P add a built-in tripod, about 10 hours of battery, phone charging and a Multifunctional Module that tracks subjects in your phone's own camera app. The Osmo Mobile 8 adds 360° unlimited pan and Apple DockKit tracking. Buy the OM 6 for value, the 7P or 8 if you want tracking outside the DJI app.

All figures are DJI's. Battery life is measured balanced and stationary; tracking and the fill light cut it, to about 4 to 5 hours on the OM 8 per DJI.

What the Multifunctional Module changes

On the OM 6, tracking works inside DJI Mimo. The OM 7 series module clips on and tracks with its own camera, so it works in your phone's native camera app (including iPhone Cinematic mode), TikTok, Instagram and Facebook live, video calls and pro apps like Blackmagic Camera. It also has a fill light with adjustable color temperature and can receive audio from a DJI Mic Mini transmitter. If you record mostly in your phone's camera app, this is the biggest reason to upgrade.

What the Osmo Mobile 8 adds over the 7P

From DJI's OM 8 FAQ:

  • 360° unlimited pan for panoramic moves and tracking subjects that walk around you.
  • Apple DockKit support, so the gimbal tracks in more than 200 iOS apps with a direct phone connection.
  • Pet tracking (cats and dogs) with the Multifunctional Module.
  • A counterweight mounting hole for phones with big camera bumps.
  • Tilt the pan axis forward for low-angle shots in standard grip.

Is the Osmo Mobile 6 still worth buying?

Yes, if you mostly shoot in DJI Mimo, want a long extension rod for selfies and groups, and don't need 10-hour battery life. It folds small, has a magnetic clamp rated at 47.5 N and a side wheel for zoom and focus. Phones from 170 to 290 g fit, which covers most current models; check DJI's compatibility list for very heavy phones.

The cheapest option is the Osmo Mobile SE, with 8 hours of battery but no extension rod. See Osmo Mobile 6 vs SE.

Availability

We carry the Osmo Mobile 6 and Osmo Mobile SE. We don't stock the Osmo Mobile 7 series or Osmo Mobile 8 right now. New DJI products face FCC authorization limits in the US, so stock elsewhere can be spotty; see is DJI Osmo banned.
