No. The DJI Avata 2 doesn't record audio, so its videos have no sound. That's not a fault: the drone has no microphone, and DJI's specs list no audio recording. Even if it had one, it would mostly pick up propeller noise. Add music, sound effects or separately recorded audio when you edit.

Why there's no sound
- No microphone. DJI's Avata 2 specs cover video formats (MP4, H.264 or H.265, up to 130 Mbps) but no audio. The files simply have no audio track.
- Prop noise. Four propellers right next to the camera would drown out anything useful.
- Same as other DJI drones. DJI's camera drones generally record video only.
If your Avata 2 clip plays silently, your drone is working normally.
Adding sound in editing
Use the DJI Fly editor
The Avata 2 uses the DJI Fly app, which has a built-in editor. Open Album > Create, pick Templates for an automatic edit set to music, or Pro to cut clips yourself and add a track from the music library or your own file. Steps in how to edit in the DJI Fly app.
DJI's LightCut app used to be the one-tap option for the Avata 2, but DJI says updates and feature maintenance for LightCut ended in September 2026 and recommends DJI Fly or DJI Mimo instead.
Use your own editor
- Copy footage off the drone. The Avata 2 has 46 GB of internal storage plus a microSD slot. See Avata 2 transfer.
- Import it into your editor.
- Add a licensed music track or sound effects (wind, motor whoosh).
- Export.
If you shot with EIS off for Gyroflow stabilization, stabilize first, then add sound. See edit FPV footage with Gyroflow.
Record real audio separately
For a vlog or a scene with dialogue, record sound on a separate device: a wireless mic on the person, or a phone recording at the scene. Clap once at the start of the take so you can line up audio and video in the edit. A DJI wireless mic works well for this; see our microphones.
What about the goggles recording?
DJI Goggles 3 can record the live view to their own microSD card, which is handy as a backup. Treat it as a reference copy; the drone's own recording is higher quality. Check DJI's goggles manual for current options. See DJI Goggles 3 recording and SD card.
Tips for better-sounding edits
- Cut to the beat. FPV footage is fast, and music sets the pace.
- Add subtle wind or motor sounds under music to make it feel real.
- Keep it legal: use music you have the rights to, especially for client or monetized work.
Want built-in audio?
If you need sound from the same device, a handheld camera is the better tool. The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and Osmo Action cameras record audio and work with DJI wireless mics. See Osmo cameras.
