Osmo Pocket 3 vs Sony ZV-1F, ZV-E10 and Canon G7X for vlogging

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

For walk-and-talk vlogging, the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is the easier camera to get smooth, well-framed footage from. Its 1-inch sensor sits on a 3-axis mechanical gimbal that physically pans to follow your face, and the screen rotates to switch between horizontal and vertical. Sony's ZV-1F, ZV-1 II and Canon's G7X are traditional compact vlog cameras that stabilize inside the body; they can offer zoom, and the ZV-E10 takes interchangeable lenses, but none of them has a gimbal.

Pocket 3 figures are DJI's. The core difference is physical: a motorized gimbal that moves the camera, vs a compact camera that stabilizes inside the body.

How the cameras differ

Stabilization. This is the big one. A gimbal moves the whole camera to cancel shake, so walking footage stays smooth without cropping in. Compact cameras rely on optical or electronic stabilization. Electronic modes typically crop the frame to work, which makes a wide shot narrower at arm's length.

Framing. The Pocket 3's gimbal tracks your face and keeps you centered as you move. On a compact camera, autofocus can track your face, but the framing is only as good as your arm.

Sensor. The ZV-1 series and G7X are 1-inch-type compacts, so in raw image quality they're in the same class as the Pocket 3. The Sony ZV-E10 uses a larger APS-C sensor and interchangeable lenses, which can give more background blur and better low light with the right lens, at the cost of size.

Zoom and lens choice. The Pocket 3 has a fixed wide lens with digital zoom. If you need optical zoom, a zoom compact such as the G7X fits better. If you want to change lenses, the ZV-E10 is the one.

Vertical video. Rotate the Pocket 3's screen and the camera switches to vertical framing. With a compact camera you crop in or turn the camera and grip.

Audio. The Pocket 3 has built-in mics and connects directly to DJI Mic 2 transmitters without a receiver. Sony and Canon compacts typically use a mic input or hot-shoe accessories. See Osmo Pocket 3 wireless mic.

Which should you buy?

Your style Pick
Walking vlogs, travel, city tours Osmo Pocket 3
Sit-down YouTube, product reviews Either; a tripod removes the gimbal advantage
You need optical zoom A zoom compact (G7X class)
You want lens choice and background blur An interchangeable-lens camera (ZV-E10 class)
You also shoot lots of photos A compact or mirrorless camera

The Pocket 3 also records 4K at 120 fps for slow motion and 10-bit D-Log M for color grading, and it's small enough to film one-handed all day. Its main limits are the fixed wide lens, a gimbal that needs care, and a small sensor compared with mirrorless cameras.
