DJI Avata 2 alternatives worth considering

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

The closest alternative to the DJI Avata 2 is the DJI Neo flown with Goggles N3 or Goggles 3 and RC Motion 3: a tiny, guarded drone with the same immersive view for far less money, but no flips and a weaker camera. If camera quality matters more than acrobatics, the Air 3 also works with Goggles 3. If you want full manual freestyle, a custom FPV quad with the DJI O4 Air Unit is the step up. For most first-time FPV pilots, the Avata 2 ($934 with goggles and RC Motion 3) remains the easiest all-in-one choice.

Avata 2 alternatives
Three DJI-based ways to fly FPV other than the Avata 2. Prices are our current prices; goggles and controllers are extra unless in a combo.

DJI Neo: the budget FPV option

The DJI Neo ($186 drone only) weighs 135 g, has full propeller guards and works with DJI Goggles 3 and Goggles N3 plus RC Motion 3. It also flies from your phone or your palm and follows you on its own, which the Avata 2 can't.

  • Choose it if: you want to try goggles cheaply, fly indoors, or want a drone that tracks you.
  • You give up: Easy ACRO flips, the Avata 2's larger 1/1.3-inch sensor, speed and wind handling.

See Avata 2 vs Neo.

DJI Air 3 with Goggles 3

The Air 3 ($1,209) works with Goggles 3 and RC Motion 3, so you get a goggles view from a drone with two cameras, 46 rated minutes and omnidirectional obstacle sensing. It won't flip or dive like an FPV drone, and it weighs 720 g. It doesn't work with Goggles N3, and the newer Air 3S doesn't support goggles at all. See Air 3 goggles.

  • Choose it if: you want cinematic aerials first and a goggles view as a bonus.

Custom FPV build with the O4 Air Unit

A freestyle or cinewhoop quad built around the DJI O4 Air Unit ($120) gives you DJI's digital video in Goggles 3 or N3, plus full acro control with any radio, including ELRS. It's what experienced pilots fly.

  • Choose it if: you want full manual flight, cheap repairs, and to tune everything.
  • You give up: GPS hold and auto-RTH on many builds, Easy ACRO, and plug-and-play setup. Expect soldering and simulator practice.

What about the DJI FPV or the original Avata?

Both are discontinued. Used units can be good value, but parts and Care Refresh are harder to get. See Avata 2 vs Avata 1 and Avata 2 vs DJI FPV.

Not FPV, but similar uses

If you mainly want smooth flying footage without goggles, the sub-250 g DJI Flip ($483) has full prop guards and tracking, and the Mini 4 Pro also works with Goggles 3. See Flip vs Avata 2.
