Yes. The DJI Flip is sold in the US, and it's legal to buy, own and fly. It launched in January 2025, before the FCC added foreign-made drones, including DJI, to its Covered List in December 2025. That decision blocks new models from getting FCC authorization; it doesn't ban models already authorized, like the Flip. We sell it from $483, and at under 249 g it needs no FAA registration for recreational flying.

What the FCC decision means for the Flip
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Can I buy one? | Yes, from US retailers and authorized dealers |
| Can I fly it? | Yes, under normal FAA rules |
| Will it get updates? | Yes. In May 2026 the FCC extended updates for authorized drones to January 1, 2029 |
| Are parts and batteries available? | Yes, though stock varies |
| Can new DJI models launch here? | Not while the decision stands; they can't get FCC authorization |
Since September 3, 2026, imported drones also carry a Section 232 tariff, which affects prices and stock. Read is DJI banned in the US.

Buy from an authorized dealer
- US warranty and service apply to US-market units bought from authorized sellers. See DJI warranty in the USA.
- DJI Care Refresh has to be bought in the same country as the drone, before or within 48 hours of activation. See Flip protection.
- Imported units can arrive with another region's settings, missing items, or no valid US support.
What you need to fly it in the US
- Recreational: pass the free TRUST test and carry proof. No FAA registration under 250 g.
- Fly by the rules: 400 ft or below in uncontrolled airspace, LAANC authorization near airports, visual line of sight, no flying over people or moving vehicles.
- Paid work: a Part 107 certificate, plus registration and Remote ID for the drone. The Flip has no built-in Standard Remote ID, so commercial pilots need a broadcast module. See Flip Remote ID.

National parks and special places
Drones can't launch or land in national parks without a special permit, regardless of weight. Check drone no-fly zones and your state's rules in drone laws by state.
Will the Flip become illegal?
Nothing in the FCC's current decision makes an already-authorized drone illegal to own or fly. We'll update this page if that changes.
Rules current as of October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice.
