DJI Mini 3 battery life: real flight time and charging time

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

The DJI Mini 3 flies up to 38 minutes on its standard battery and up to 51 minutes with the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus, according to DJI. Those are lab numbers, flown at a steady 21.6 km/h with no wind until the battery hit 0%. In real flights, plan on roughly 28 to 32 minutes with the standard battery, because you land with a reserve and wind costs power.

DJI Mini 3 rated flight times
DJI's figures, measured in a wind tunnel from 100% to 0%. Real flights end with battery to spare and lose time to wind, so plan on less.

DJI's battery life figures

Standard battery Battery Plus
Max flight time 38 min 51 min
Max hover time 33 min 44 min
Max flight distance 18 km (11.2 mi) 25 km (15.5 mi)
Capacity 2453 mAh 3850 mAh
Drone takeoff weight Under 250 g About 290 g

Hovering uses more power than slow forward flight, which is why hover time is shorter. The flight distance figures were measured at 43.2 km/h until the battery ran out, one way.

Why real flights are shorter

  • You land with a reserve. DJI Fly warns at low battery and starts RTH when it calculates it's needed. Most pilots land at 20 to 30%.
  • Wind. The Mini 3 is light, so fighting a headwind drains it fast. It's rated for 10.7 m/s (about 24 mph), but you'll lose time well below that. See Mini 3 wind resistance.
  • Cold. Battery capacity drops in low temperatures. DJI's manual says this also reduces wind resistance. See Mini 3 temperature.
  • Sport mode and climbing. Fast flying and steep climbs use far more power than cruising.
  • Battery age. Capacity falls slowly with use.

Our 28 to 32 minute estimate is a typical planning range, not a DJI figure.

Battery Plus: the extended battery

The Plus pushes rated flight time to 51 minutes, but the drone then weighs about 290 g. That means FAA registration for hobby flying, and Remote ID, which DJI says the Mini 3 only activates with the Plus battery. It also lowers the maximum takeoff altitude to 3,000 m. DJI sells it only in some regions. See Mini 3 Battery Plus.

How long to charge

With DJI's 30W USB-C charger, a standard battery takes about 64 minutes in the drone or 56 minutes in the two-way charging hub. A Battery Plus takes about 101 or 78 minutes. See Mini 3 charge time.

How to get more flying time

  1. Carry spare batteries. Three batteries give over an hour of real flying. The Fly More Combo includes three. See Mini 3 combo.
  2. Charge in a hub. The two-way charging hub charges three in sequence and can top up your phone from the leftovers.
  3. Fly upwind first so the wind helps you home.
  4. Use Normal or Cine mode for most shots; save Sport for open sky.
  5. Plan the shot before takeoff so you're not hovering while you decide.
  6. Keep batteries warm in winter and fully charged before you leave.
  7. Charge every battery at least every three months to keep capacity up.

Mini 3 vs other Minis

The Mini 3's 38 minutes rated is longer than the Mini 4 Pro's 34 minutes with its standard battery, which DJI credits to the Mini 3's larger propellers and more efficient propulsion. See Mini 3 vs Mini 4 Pro and how long can a drone fly.
